Sustainable Aid For 12 Charities

On 12th Dec 2012, 12 charitable organizations came together at the Recognition Ceremony at Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Instead of a one off donation like writing a cheque or giving a bag of rice or cleaning a home, The Truly Loving Company came out with a way to provide months and years of savings for the charity homes. The TLC Promise Me initiative this year is to deliver promises to 12 charitable organizations to replace their electrical appliances and lightings to energy saving equivalents which could reduce their monthly utility bills, by 30% - 40%. This, essentially is sustainable donation and the charities can save in the long run and at the same time protect the environment. Thus the birth of Project WATTS, Where Aid Turns To Sustainability.

This event was organized by The Truly Loving Company to celebrate the fact that the 12 charities all had their pledges granted and fulfilled, with the campaign successfully raising RM380,000. This was made possible by many big hearted organizations, youth institutions and the public.

Beneficiaries of Project WATTS include: Dignity for Children Foundation, Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children’s Association Johor Bahru (PPKKTAJ), Home of Peace, Hospis Malaysia, Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB), Montfort Boys Town, National Autism Society Of Malaysia (NASOM), National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM), Rumah Aman, Shelter Home for Children, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), and United Voice.

The ceremony saw all TLC Promise Me participants receiving their certificates of appreciation from Khaw Chay Tee (Director) and Julia Chong, CEO and Founder of The Truly Loving Company. “We are truly delighted with the levels of commitment that the corporations and institutions had put in to fulfill their pledges. They engaged not just their friends and family, but also their community and business partners. And two corporations even took up 2 pledges each”

TLC Promise Me sought to bring together caring corporations/ youth institutions as well as individuals to care for our community. Participating this year are: 988 FM, Arachnid Interactive Sdn Bhd, Capital FM,  Cheng Hua Engineering Works Sdn Bhd, elc International School, Jalex Sdn Bhd, Magnum Sdn Bhd, Ms Rosemarie Wee, Southern College, and Tunku Abdul Rahman College.

The campaign attracted some caring partners who did not just use their skills and facilities, but also came forward to fulfill a pledge for a charity home; 988 FM is Project WATTS’s Campaign Partner helping to create awareness for Project WATTS and the Malaysian Association for the Blind to their Chinese listeners.  Arachnid Interactive is the creative support for the campaign from strategy to the actual implementation of campaign for social media, digital as well as all creative materials. Arachnid have selected to support Shelter, Home for children.

The media partners include Capital FM, Red Fm, Suria Fm, NTV7, Oriental Daily, while Panasonic Malaysia and Philips Lightings Malaysia offered special rates for electrical appliances and lightings. Xim Phou Moon Welfare Society helped to recycled old appliances.

With the launch of TLC Green household products in 2011, it was timely for Project WATTS to combine the two CSR pillars of environment and community to bring about a green idea that can be beneficial to those in need.

Julia Chong, CEO and Founder of The Truly Loving Company felt that more efforts are needed to educate the public about the protection of the planet and hoped that Project WATTS apart from reaching out to the needy, will also make Malaysians more conscious of “greening” the environment.  In closing, she said, “We can all help in whatever way we can, and even if we cannot afford to donate. We can always use our skills to lend a helping hand. Collectively we can do so much.”

The 3 months campaign successfully raised RM380,000.00 to green 12 charity homes. Project WATTS provided the 12 charity homes with 120 energy saving air conditioners, 20 ECONAVI refrigerators, 18 Inverter washing machines, and more than 400 energy saving light bulbs and tubes.

The Truly Loving Company is Malaysia’s first social enterprise which pledges 100% of its dividends to its Charity Partners through The Truly Loving Company Charitable Trust held by HSBC (Malaysia) Trustees Bhd. TLC’s revenue is derived from sales of the TLC brand of quality household and personal care products such as dishwashing liquid, floor and toilet bowl cleaners, soaps and hand wash in retail outlets and hypermarkets such as Giant, Tesco, Jusco, Carrefour, Cold Storage, and 99 Speedmart.
