The Most Powerful Ways to Show Mom Love and Appreciation

Mother's Day is coming up and perhaps you've started thinking about how best to show the moms in your life—whether it be your wife, your mother or your mother-in-law, or all of the above—just how special and valued they really are. How can you adequately express your love and appreciation for the unique place in your heart and in your life that a mother holds? Here are a few suggestions to help you out. It's easier than you think. Sometimes the simplest things make the most impact in a person's life, so let's get back to the basics of what really matters when showing your love and appreciation to the beloved mothers in your life.

Say "I love you" and "thank you".

This seems like a given, but taking time to give sincere words of thanks to another person can make a big difference. We casually throw "thank you" and "I love you" around as an aside or as habit, but when was the last time you really thanked Mom for something specific that she has done for you? Told her you love her for the person that she is? Take some time to say thank you for whatever she has brought into your life and how those things have impacted you in a lasting and meaningful way. Thank her for her unconditional love to you and all of your family. Be specific, give clear examples and let her know how those things have changed you and affected you for the better.

Set aside time together.

The gift of your time is one of the best ways to show love and appreciation to anyone. Set aside some quality time together doing something that you will both enjoy, but center it around her and what she'd find especially meaningful, fun and engaging. Show that you've taken the time to consider and recognize her interests and give the gift of time in a meaningful way by spending time together with Mom, and it will surely be appreciated and remembered fondly.

Offer an act of kindness.

Mothers do so much, but when's the last time you did something for the special mom in your life? Ask her: "What can I do today to make your life easier and less stressful?" Think about anything you can do to help lighten her load and show the initiative and insight to do something meaningful for her. One simple, meaningful act can speak volumes when it comes to appreciating and showing loving concern.

Write a note.

Write a NoteTake your sentiments a step further by writing them down. Write a thoughtful note, letter or card expressing that there are many things you love and appreciate about Mom, and then state the top three things that stand out to you about her as a person. Saying you love and appreciate someone is one thing, but detailing some specific traits and examples makes it more personal and shows that you've taken the extra time to express your thoughts and sentiments. It is much more meaningful than just buying a Hallmark card and signing your name to it. Take it a step further this Mother's Day!

Do something special.

Doing something for Mom that she wouldn't do for herself is a wonderful way to show you care. Plan a special dinner out or prepare a homemade meal in which she's the guest of honor, so she doesn't have to cook, cleanup or do anything but dress up and show up. Get tickets to a show that she's been longing to see. Pamper her with a spa day or something relaxing for her that she would not normally do for herself. Plan a special Mother's Day getaway to a beautiful place where she'd love to spend time with those she loves the most. Get creative!
